Chevrolet Corvette: The First True Yankee Sports Car

America has always been a fertile land for sports car. No wonder, all the car makers were too keen to roll out their sports versions into Yankee land. Chevrolet, the French subsidiary of GM introduced its Corvette model in 1953. Considered as the most classic American sports car, Corvette took it no time in invading the hearts of car lovers. Corvette is first completely American sports car built by an American car company.
The Corvettes that roll out on New Land roads are manufactured in the Chevrolet plant located in the city of Bowling Green, Kentucky. Chevrolet had to face a lot criticism on for Corvette’s handling. This made the company to bring out an improved handling to be on a par with popular European sports cars. However, they still remain relatively affordable, making it the popular brand sports car in the US. Corvettes are much simpler than the European model technical sports cars, which make sit weigh less and cheaper in price than the competing models.
The car was modelled by famous car designer Harley Earl felt the need of a US sports car after seeing the European sports cars. It was in 1953 Motorama car show, that the Corvette got unveiled. Since its release, Chevrolet has brought out six generations of Corvettes but only five of these coveted models left in existence.
In spite of its fifty years of existence in the highly competitive market, Corvette still enjoy the same status and place among the hearts automobile enthusiasts. In 1984 and 1998, Motor Trend’s Car of the Year reached the shelves of Corvette and it found berth in the dozens of Ten Best Car lists. The news of oldest Corvette being sold out for a price of one million US dollars at a recent auction is enough to prove that this car is the most adorable model ever rolled out in the United States. The real classic American sports car is no doubt, is the emperor on roads.
