Honda Civic: Launched in 1972; Still Moves Strong

Honda introduced its Civic version in 1972. Civic made its entry as a two-door coupe, followed by a three-door hatchback version. The Civic evolved from having an 1170 cc engine to a model comprising of engines with larger capacities and more creature comforts in the 1980s, 1990s and into the 2000s. The Civic has earned a reputation for its quality, clever engineering and steadfast reliability. The fascination for Civic grew over years resulting a hike in the popularity of Honda and sales figures topped 200,000 annually attested.
Civic in its early versions were typically outfitted with a basic AM radio, rudimentary heater, foam cushioned plastic trim, two-speed wipers, and painted steel rims with a chromed wheel nut cap. The current model is more luxurious with satellite-linked navigation, a six-speed manual transmission, power locks and power windows available. The seventh generation Civic came out in 2001 and the Civic Si made its return in 2002. The Japanese automaker launched its natural gas-powered Civic GX in mid-2006, which is still on the roads. It grabbed the 2006 “Best Buy” award from Quatro Rodas magazine, the most prestigious car magazine in the country.
The Honda Civic Tour, for the past seven years holds a big share of the auto market in the US. The car has transverse engine placement of its 1169 cc engine and front-wheel drive, and has come out with enticing interior space and has worked to promote environmental consciousness by giving away customized Honda Civic Hybrids to lucky fans.
