MCE-5 Variable Compression Ratio engine- engineering excellence from France

The engineers from France have a brand new technology to offer the world. This time, it is the MCE-5 Variable Compression Ratio engine. You may ask what Variable Compression Rate is. Here is the answer.
Variable Compression Rate is the technology to adjust internal combustion engine cylinder compression ratios on the fly. This is done to increase fuel efficiency while under varying loads. Higher loads require lower ratios to be more efficient and vice versa. Variable compression engines allow for the volume above the piston at ‘Top Dead Centre’ to be changed. For automotive use this needs to be done dynamically in response to the load and driving demands.
The creators of the MCE-5 VCR engine claim that the engine will replace the traditional Fixed Compression Rate engines.
So what is so much special about this new technology? It is based on a combination of rod-crank mechanism and long-life gears, integrating both power transmission and compression ratio control for each cylinder.
MCE also claims that the design of the engine is more durable and robust. You won’t have to spend much in its maintenance.
The engine can be installed in every sort of vehicle because, the engine has no impact on the rest of the components of a vehicle.
MCE’s current prototype offers 218 HP with a 1.5 liter engine.
Maximum torque is at about 2,000 rpm or lower, while maximum power speed is at 5,500 rpm or higher, and limit speed is approximately 7,000 rpm. It reportedly reduces fuel consumption by 20% versus same-sized conventional engines. The cost of the engine is approximately $3,000.
