Mitsubishi L200: Too Powerful for Weak Drivers
![]() |
Mitsubishi has always been the ruler on the road. With its prowess and sophisticated looks, the vehicles from Mitsubishi have always been an undisputed leader on road for the past five decades. This time Mitsubishi is back with its humble pick-up truck in the shape of a new beast.
By bringing out new version of L200, Mitsubishi shows that it is ready for a fight with its Japanese competitors like Toyota, and Nissan. You can call L200 an animal for its looks and powerful features that make it stand apart from the contemporary models.
The Mitsubishi L200 is a commercial vehicle which is slowly taking a big share of the pick-up automobile market.
It was just a few years back that the pick-ups emerged as an attractive vehicle in the UK. Earlier people used to look for SUVs. The main reason for this is the loophole in the company car tax law but this was soon closed by the Chancellor.
Mitsubishi has very effectively made the distinction between work and play by categorizing the L200 range as 4Work and 4Life. The new L200 has a softer more round edged design than its predeceasing model which appeals to non-commercial buyers. The double-cab version of this vehicle is still fairly practical. It is larger than the old model with seat five at a push. It comes out on road with coil and leaf springs with a live axle and ladder frame chassis so although very capable off-road you can’t expect sports car handling. This new pick up from Mitsubishi has switchable all wheel drive plus a lockable centre that makes it unique.
This vehicle comes with a well constructed cabin that incorporates a lot of plastic but certainly doesn’t feel cheap. To drive L200, it may need a little more effort than driving the average modern SUV. The steering is a bit heavy but the turning circle is infinitely better than the old model.
This pick up from Mitsubishi is powered by a 2.5 litre four cylinder turbo diesel with around 136bhp and 314nm of torque that ensures a respectable 0-60mph time. Fuel consumption is also quite impressive.
