There is a dire shortage of fuel, everybody is noticing it but nobody seems to be able to come up with a solution. This shortage is forcing the fuel prices higher and higher everyday.
You can’t change the world’s fuel problems single handedly, but there are some ways that you can stretch your fuel and save your hard earned dollars.
Don’t switch your engine off
Switching your engine off for short periods of time can actually increase fuel use, as it requires more fuel to get the engine started. Also your catalytic converter will no longer be running at full temperature and so your car will be less efficient, increasing the amount of pollution you cause.
Switch you engine Off
I know, I just told you not to, but that is if you are stopping for a short period. If you are standing for a longer time say more than 5 min then shut the engine.
Use your gears intelligently
Driving in the highest gear possible without laboring the engine is a fuel-efficient way of driving.
Drive efficiently
By applying light throttle and avoiding heavy braking, you can reduce both fuel consumption and wear and tear. Try to predict traffic at junctions and when in queuing to avoid accelerating and then braking.
Tire Pressure
Tier pressure plays an important role in increasing fuel efficiency. About 50% of tires on the road are under inflated, this not only increases the rate of wear, but also wastes fuel and decreases your fuel efficiency. Try the new ‘Eco’ tires that are designed specifically to increase fuel efficiency.
Car Windows
It’s hard to believe but driving with your windows open drastically reduces your fuel efficiency. (Even more than the AC)
Spark Plugs make a difference
Ensure your spark plugs are in good condition; renew the plugs and wires at intervals. This will keep all cylinders firing properly resulting in higher efficiency.

Heat is an enemy of the mechanical components of a car. Though the engines of cars are designed to withstand higher temperature, the level beyond control leads to engine breakdown. A car’s engine can quickly overheat and if the car’s cooling system is not working well, the peril is higher, especially on hot summer days and slow moving traffic.
Here comes the function of car’s radiator, which is a large matrix of small pipes. It is a heat exchanger that transfers heat from one part of the system to another part. In case of a car, the radiator transfers heat from the engine to the radiator fins. The radiator removes the amount of heat from the engine. When the coolant passes through the cooling cores of the radiator, it cools down thereby reducing the heat from the engine.
Car’s radiator should be bigger because a bigger radiator has the capability of removing large amounts of heat from the engine.
The coolant should also be of good quality. This is because if there are any impurities in the engine’s radiator, its cooling properties will suffer. The cooling property may get damaged if the cooling system is not working.

The market is now clustered by numerous used car dealers who assure you to get the best used car in the market. However, we suggest you to look before you leap. Yes, there are many aspects to be kept in mind before purchasing a used car. Here are they.
How old is the car?
The very first thing to look for is the age of the car, that is how old is the car. You need to keep this in mind because newer cars are less polluting. They are generally cleaner cars. The older the car is the more is the pollution. So, make sure that you purchase a used car which is not too old.
Was the used car given proper maintenance?
Of course, a used car which is not too old is preferred but, you should also know that an older car that was given good care is much better than a five-year-old car that has been poorly maintained. So, always check the owner’s manual and the maintenance record to be sure that the car has been properly maintained.
What is the fuel efficiency of the car?
Look at the emissions inspection sticker and make sure that it is valid. The sticker shows whether or not the vehicle meets the minimum requirements for emissions in your State. Also check for the fuel-efficiency rating of the car, that is, the amount of carbon monoxide emissions. Ideally, the car should emit lower carbon monoxide per mile. Car that pollutes less is more efficient and more efficiency means you save money!
Is the engine of the car on a fair condition?
Start the engine of the car and listen to it. If it sounds smooth it is okay. But, you should not stop yourself from getting it thoroughly checked by a qualified mechanic. Get the catalytic converter and other pollution control devices checked by the professional.
What is the mode of payment?
If you have checked all the aspects of the car and have decided to purchase it, check the mode of payment. That is, do you to pay in full cash or installment? Do you have to make the payment in cash or credit? Do you have to pay the cost of credit, interest and other loan costs? You must also check how much money you can put down, the monthly payment, the loan term and the Annual Percentage Rate (APR).
Keep all these tips in mind and make sure that you end up buying a reasonably good used car.

When the spark plugs are worn out, the electrical current will not make its journey as successfully and will cause a car to have reduced power which in turn can lead to a number of problems such as misfiring, sluggish driving; poor gasoline consumption or your car won’t start the right way. We are here to provide you tips on how to change the spark plug and ensure smooth drive.
The first step is to remove the High Tension coil from the first spark plug by grabbing the rubber boot and pulling sharply. Do not pull on the wires this can permanently damage them. Remove the spark plug using a spark plug socket. Spark plug sockets have a rubber lining that prevents damage to the ceramic casing. Place the socket over the plug and twist it out. Care should be taken while doing this because the engine components are very sharp ended.
When you drop anything to the engine cylinder, head or piston, you should be very careful because foreign objects entering into the cylinder can damage the cylinder or the head.
To ensure a smooth removal of the plug, lubricate the plug on the treads before you install it.
Now, tighten the spark plug using your fingers. If you find that the spark plug can’t be tightened by your fingers anymore, use a socket wrench into the spark plug and then rotate it clockwise. Just rotate it a quarter of a turn using one or two fingers to tighten the spark plug. While doing this, make sure that it is not over-tighten.
Hence, you have successfully installed the spark plug in your car’s engine!
