BMW was founded in Munich in Germany in the year 916. BMW began operations by producing engines for rail transport. During the World War I, they were involved in the making of military products. It was in the post war era, BMW started concentrating into the automobile sector. 

BMW conducted researches widely and developed different jet engines for weapons.
Soon after the creation of the rocket-based weapons, parts of the company were bombed. After the war, Soviet Union

Razed to the ground most of the company located in eastern Germany. The base factory in Munich was almost completely destroyed causing a big blow to BMW.
BMW was not able to recover quickly. It took some time for them rebuild the factory in Munich. After that when the restrictions from the Allies applied BMW was banned for three long years in which the company was forbidden from producing motorcycles until 1948 and cars until 1952.

In 1951, the German company made a comeback like a phoenix regaining all trademarks and it looked like it was finally able to recover and start again from what was left. In 1959, BMW began production of the BMW 700 which was based on the BMW 600. This small car with 2-cylinder, air-cooled engines was later renamed to “LS”. Coupe and some cabriolet series were also manufactured.

In 1966, the factory in Munich reached its maximum capacity and BMW bought Hans Glas GmbH, the deal that enabled BMW to use factories in Landshut and Dingolfing.
In 1972, BMW began production of 5 new series. It bought the British Aerospace the Rover Group, which was later sold to Phoenix Venture Holdings and Ford Motor Company because of some years of losses for BMW.

BMW started its production outside of Germany in 1994 by setting up new factories in South Carolina. BMW also began production in South Africa. BMW is seriosly planning to set up a new plant in Cyprus or Greece. A plant in Chennai, India already opened production in 2007.

Volvo entered the Indian automobile market a bit late, but succeeded in grabbing a big share of it within a short time. The entry of Volvo was awaited with wide enthusiasm, and Volvo didn’t fail in invading the hearts of car lovers.

Car Corporation, a Ford group company has appointed three dealers in the cities of New Delhi, Mumbai and Chandigarh expecting high rise in sales.

The all-new luxury Sedan comes with a V8 powered with the proven Volvo Haldex computer-controlled all-wheel-drive system. The two models are coming up with three different engine alternatives: the 4.4 litre petrol V8, the 3.2 litre petrol in-line six-cylinder and the 2.4 litre turbocharged diesel in-line five-cylinder, the D5. The chassis, body and the interiors are brand new from stem to stern for the new 2007 model. The S80 has a safety package along with simply superb with ABS, traction control, and the yaw control. Volvo brings out the new models with Personal Car Communicator, a new electronic key fob design that could lock or unlock the car from distances up to 110 yards, and could tell you the state of locking. The cars also have an alarm and could sense the presence of a human heartbeat inside the car. The traffic distance warning system on top of the dash triggers, a flashing red light along with an audible warning, could be defeated by the driver if desired. Don’t that sound simply exciting. The new luxury sedan is admired and appreciated for its desired looks.

Volvo is targeting the NRI customers who have a desire to shell out for luxury sedans. If it succeeds in hitting the target, then the hard days for competing models are going to begin.
